After reading a story, in the local newspaper, about nine month old Emme Read’s desperate need for a nebuliser, Dave Penman, founder of Asthma Relief Charity, was so touched by the story he arranged to buy the £600 potentially lifesaving equipment.
Little Emme was whisked away at birth and put in intensive, then transferred to Bristol Children’s hospital where it was confirmed that she had the genetic condition, Cystic Fibrosis.
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited condition that causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. This causes lung infections and problems with digesting food.
Emme’s Mum Carly was borrowing a second-hand nebuliser from a friend, to dispense her daily medication to clear her lungs, as the local hospital did not have the funds to provide one.
Her delighted Mum said, ‘I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the charity and can’t thank them enough’.
The funds for this specialised nebuliser came from an eighty year old lady who asked for donations instead of birthday presents and an additional £200 came from Asda shoppers popping their green tokens in the Charity’s box in- store.
Carly has since raised £400 for Asthma Relief, by organising a charity event with Tinies Playgroup and Toothill Church.
Emme is doing well and Mum Carly is making it her mission to raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis and raise funds to buy more Eflo nebulisers.
